The John Wesley House and The Museum of Methodism celebrate their recent full accreditation by the Museums, Archives and Libraries Council
The Accreditation Scheme sets nationally agreed standards for UK museums. To qualify, museums must meet clearly-defined standards on how they care for and document their collections and how they are managed and developed. Full Accreditation is the benchmark required by funding bodies nationally to provide grants for projects, object acquisitions and outreach.
The Museum of Methodism and The John Wesley House have met and exceeded the Accreditation Scheme’s requirements. For example, many items in the collection have been catalogued digitally on a specialist museum database for the first time. This makes access to collections much quicker and effective. Similarly, the museum did very well in satisfying physical access and facility requirements. Achieving full accreditation is the result of much hard work, in particular of the Wesley’s Chapel Heritage Stewards who look after visitors and assist with the collections.
